NMIT's Jewellery course is up next and there opening is this Thursday.

The show is called Auteur ( a word i have not heard before) Meaning -
Noun
auteur (plural auteurs)

A creative artist, especially a film director, seen as having a specific, recognisable artistic vision, and who is seen as the single or preeminent ‘author’ of their works.

Interesting.

It's running from the 18th - 27th Novemeber 2011. Every day of week 10am - 6pm. Good hours.

Opening night is the 17th 6pm - 8pm.

I'm a little bummed because im covering bar shifts this week and will be missing out - but all the very best to Rhiannon afterward you will get a well deserved holiday, rest period and your life back!

Historically the wonder room was for the collection of objects including but not limited to scientific specimens, art and antiquities. Today was a great day. Sunshine to start, friends to compliment and some serious goodies from the Carlow House - Garage Sale and Open Studio. My apologies for not posting about this event earlier.
It was so great to see my old TAFE teacher Anna Davern. After the RMIT auction I was especially keen on seeing more of her new collection "Rocks." I had my heart set on getting a pair of earrings but when i got there and saw the prices i was so very lucky to be able to buy a few pieces. The best thing was peeling off the stickers and revealing the original price WOW! I ended up coming home with a bunch of items... here they are.

Name the 5 things that you think of when i say Melbourne?

For me they are Trams (specifically the W-Class), Footy, St Kilda Beach, Water Wall (NGV) and Grey skies. I have memories and wonderful stories about each of them. I am getting off track so i will just mention this grey skies are synonymous with Melbourne. So synonymous in fact that Ironlak named their grey 'Melbourne'.

Now back to the topic of Melbourne i stumbled across blog called http://fuckyeahgetthis.tumblr.com which is written by the likes of Tony Martin, Ed Kavalee and Richard Marsland.

How often do you look at the grimy bathroom walls when you're out, heaps right. Tonight i had a moment before i had to meet a buddy and i popped into the Old Bar (great joint) on Johnston St, Fitzroy. There is was in all it's glory "heavy mystic shit' here started me thinking about the person who wrote it and what frame of mind they were in... Who knows 'heavy mystic shit' right?! From this is i will continue to chronical the best of best - or at least the most interesting (i find) stay tuned.

Is one of the bylines for the new documentary "Vigilante Vigilante" that's coming out. I heard the buzz from Matt from 1UP Mircocinema Perth mecca for street fashion, drinks and flicks.

I haven't seen anything along these lines since RASH, cue eyebrow raise it's exciting.

This documentary looks at the rise of the anti-graffiti vigilante. These characters try to stamp out graffiti as quickly as it goes up. Hence the question is posed "is it still graffiti if they're covering up graffiti?" I can't wait to see the feature.

Copy catting is the sincerest form of flattery right? How far does this extend? In the media people copy things all the time. Television news take lead on articles from the newspaper and so on.

This evening my housemate and i were enjoying a couple of vinos and she had her new magazine purchases out. I was flicking through the new Madsion and came upon an article on Blake Lively current IT girl/muse (lucky girl) for Lagerfeld. Within seconds of seeing the images i realised i'd seen them before. I knew it was in another magazine about a year ago. I serached through all the magazines in the house finding nothing, i a little disappointed and confused (i have a brilliant memory for objects and images - people and names not so much) as to why i couldn't find the article. I looked to the internet and there it was.

new lease on life... well uni!

First day of a fresh new tasty semester.

This semesters alternative studio is Small Object Ideation. It is suggested for first years so that they look into abstraction and conceptual development. I kept putting other alternative studios above it, but i finally bit the bullet and chose it and even after just one class i am kicking myself i didn't take it last year. Our teacher is Nicholas Bastin who is clam, centered and clear being. He is great. Today was mainly of drawing (which i am not confident at) but i actually enjoyed it, thoroughly.

One of the most challenging activities was drawing a still life (arranged objects) but not looking at the page. It was extremely hard and i have to admit my eyes did dart down once or twice. Try it - it's incredibly difficult.

I am so happy to have had my assessment. It has been one of the toughest semesters. It has been a mass with introspection, sadness and hope.

I am stronger for it. One always is when there is struggle. This semesters work consisted of ideas of self-preservation, wholeness and flatness and the almighty rmit teapot.

it's Melbourne, its cold. We all know when winter time comes people head indoors. This winter is especially cold. Its the coldest i can remember since the 1999 winter.

At this time of year I am constantly on the lookout for bars with open fires and new exciting "indoor" activities. Yesterday i stumbled up on this amazing new venture the State Library has begun - Outside-in Cinema it's showing once a fortnight for the majority of winter!

Tonight's showing is "Exit Through the Gift Shop" rave reviews have flowed for this documentary (still being debated if it is a documentry or mockumentry) since it premiered at ACMI last year.

The rest of the program is varied in genre and there is something for everyone. Giddy UP!

wants vs needs

What does one need and what does one want.

New clothes? Magazines? Make-up?

There is big difference between wants and needs. The impact of this understanding is so important and comes with time.

Over the past couple of years i have begun to realise that when you go out you appreciate what you have. An appreciation of what is important. I love sneakers. I have 30 odd pairs. Last year i decided to not buy one pair for 12 months. I ended up going beyond the 12 months and edged into 16 months.

This year i am giving up buying cosmetics - all forms. I have such a backlog of products from buying and being giving promotion (thank you L'Oreal, Priceline and Clinique) packs.

I bought a plastic under bed storage box and put everything

in there and this is just the unopened products!

I think i should be fine to get through the 12 months without buying anything.

I just had my birthday and my god-mother gave me a present... She always out do's herself with beautiful gifts. A few years ago she gave me Mor Cosmetics soap, it was the marshmallow fragrance. It was the best soap i had ever used and the scent was unbelievable. This year she has bought me a gift set with s soap and hand cream, once again marshmallow.

The gift tins are so beautiful and will used lovingly after the pieces have been used.

I am waiting on the postman to bring the package... I love knowing its coming. This will be the only cosmetic item i receive till May 31st 2012. Going to be an interesting year.

driver saw me taking photos he asked if i wanted him to pose.

I walked past my old home in Carlton today and saw the dish

washer that was there 5 years ago some things just don't change.

I was overseas exactly 1 year ago... My camera had the wrong year setting on it so every

time i open iPhoto i am reminded, it is nice. I can't wait to be on a plane again exploring the world.

With assessment looming i am trying my hardest to get everything done. Current form fixations are spheres. Little brass spheres. Thank the lord for moors discs.

The spheres i've made range in sizes from 25mm - 10mm. For me there is something calming about a object that has curvature and of course mathematics involved.

Tinman could use this. Brass press formed heart, (Caz this it is the first heart i have made at uni, i promise.) difficult metal to use in the fly press as it hardens so quickly. I had to anneal it 4 times to gain the depth of 13mm or so. I'll post a photo of the perspex die i cut out. Biggest mission ever.

These guys have been a side project for a while. Finally getting them

out there and into some stores. Keep an eye out for them.

Wednesday and Thursday have been a wash of emotions and momentum. It's forward no less.

We all crave fresh starts. Are they ever really possible, or does one always remember. I think forgiveness is a special thing and it is not always easy. I am of the motto that i will forgive but never forget. This is were i am at.

Today brought a lot of goodness. I am trying to nurse my peace lilys plants back to life... They were over feed nutrients when i repotted them with a compost potting mix. The chia pet is coming along i think. There are no seeds yet and i am almost at a point were i will have to put a plastic bag over it to give it a greenhouse effect thus pushing the growing cycle. Plants are amazing they can look much past there used by date, yet with a little love, sun and water come back from the brink. I am going to try and adopt this very simple yet natural way of life. Just looking for the essentials in life and trying to keep things simple.

I crossed a few things off my list and kept myself going. I have to admit the walk home in silence and darkness setting in did play on my mind. Got home and sorted out some evening activities. Fingers crossed.

I will start to feel better. I am setting myself goals for each day of the week. One a day at a time.

Today - Mission Monday as i call it. I woke up so late my sleeping patterns are a little out of wack with going back to work and darkness being my preferred time of the day.
* Cleaned the entire house top to bottom even washing the back doors inside and out.
* Prepped my chia pet and seeds (photos to come)

Claire McArdle has her second solo show "Public Displays of Attention." The opening was last night. Walking into the room it was exciting i felt like i was transported back to being a child, when colour and size beckoned me to play. Each piece had its own character and the colours were so vibrant. Each viewer was invited to choose there favourite and put it and be recorded forever in front of the camera lens. This is a show you must get to.

Kadri Mälk hails from Tallinn, Estonia. I little i know about Estonia that one of my TAFE teachers spent some time there working and producing jewellery. It is a hub of jewellery wonders. From the Klimt02 website i spotted -

I rang in the new year working... Not the most favorable option but hey its something, great having extra money to play around with.

2011 will bring goodness of all sorts featuring art, love and happiness. I have bought myself a torch, currently waiting on its arrival and the reopening of suppliers in town to have everything i need. I'm hoping to have the whole studio revamped, up and running by beginning of February, excitement cannot be contained.

In other departments 2010 was a hard year, in many regards. I did a great deal of growing up. Learning what really matters when the chips fall, who sticks around. The people you surround yourself with. They know who they are, i value them greatly. Thank You. The rest is white noise, i can do without. Over the the past few days of work (ringing in the new year) have taught me some interesting lessons which i will carry with me for good, for the ones that know me, the chit chat is good, but it should be in moderation. There is no need to fill the silence with noise - white noise for the most part. I have culled half of my possessions. Cathartic is probably the best way to describe it. Much of this idea can now be moved across into other areas of life.

People do say, second time round can be better. I took this advice and went back to work at The Esplanade Hotel. This time i am staying away from the bar and peddling a clip board. My official role is "Mailing List." It's not as bad as you think... I promise. It's not easy, but it is fun. Getting to walk around the entire venue, seeing at the bands, brilliance. If you're round come say hi!

Easter break, has led to me procasinating over my first art theroy and history assignment - critical annotated bibliography... Which in turn has lead me to go looking through old photos.

So here are my Byron photos. It was my first time to Byron and it was for my cousins wedding, it was a week long event and suggested accommodation was Byron at Byron the joint blew my mind!

The resort has built amongst the trees, without disturbing the eco life which makes the setting seem like it had been there for years.

Monday morning on the train. Going into town for my very first day of uni. I was surrounded by a very interesting situation.

In front of me i had two young preppies shooting the breeze about the first times with there boyfriends. Nice light entertainment for the ride.

Melbourne was hit by a crazy storm yesterday. The morning was hot and i was in a park for a TAFE reunion by chance i had to leave to make it to the paint jam in St Kilda, on the way i had a couple of detours picking up Bree and dropping Whale home. When Bree and i got home the storm just hit it was intense hail (which were huge - see below), rain, thunder, lightening and windy as all hell. We decided to wait it out. It let up a little and by the time we got to St Kilda it seemed like it had passed, little did i know there was round two. I'm going to try and track down some more photos of the storm.

All of these things make up the Ron Mueck Exhibit at the National Gallery of Victoria.

This month Don’t Ban The Can is proud to announce "DEMAND ATTENTION", a solo exhibition from ADNATE.

Stretching his limits far beyond his graffiti art, he has produced major pieces exclusive for a show that push the boundaries between street and fine art.

More than a decade ago Adnate first picked up a spray can, sparking a flow of creativity that has never been blocked. He has now flourished not only as a recognized and respected graffiti artist within the scene, but also as an accomplished fine artist regularly exhibiting in galleries. “I always knew that my graffiti was art and I always knew that one day, my art would end up in a gallery” says Adnate.

Born and raised in Melbourne, he has bared witness to one of the most avant-garde street art capitals of the world. Adnate has contributed to the scene through countless graffiti murals, showcasing his art around the streets. In recent years his work can be seen in New York, Paris, Berlin, and more including a Spanish Council sponsored exhibition in Barcelona.

This year Adnate has brought a solo show to “No Vacancy”, a centrally located gallery that has always proved to be a world class exhibition space. The gallery prides itself on continuing to promote locally based artists and has become an iconic part of the Melbourne community. Exhibition openings have consistently drawn crowds in the hundreds and this show is guaranteed to be packed with all walks of life.

Exhibition runs from Friday 22nd January until 7th February 2010

Opening Night is 6:00pm Friday 22nd January. Super bummed i'll miss the opening night but as the theme goes its hard to see the works at the opening, you always have to go back when its quiet to take it all in...

"Bodies in urban spaces" is a project undertaken by Willi Dorner and Lisa Rastl.

Will Dorner is the art director and Lisa Rastl is the photographer behind this visually pleasing project. Will and Lisa have collaborated on 2 projects (‘hängende gärten’ and ‘bodies in urban spaces’) combining humans in odd formations and unusual locations. These projects set out to explore the “relationship between body, space and architecture”. This urban based series shows the human body and bodies are sculptures which were spread throughout the city of Vienna.

Blek Le Rat: he came, saw and conquered.

This is the story of when Blek Le Rat came to Melbourne.

"His disciples call him ''the godfather'' of stencil graffiti, but for 58-year-old Parisian-born Blek le Rat - who takes his name from the small black rodents he painted around Paris some 30 years ago - it's a term of endearment rather than a title implying omnipotence."

Blek Le Rat is currently showing at Metro 5, one very prestigious gallery in Melbourne. Metro 5 is on High st (between glenferrie rd + kooyong rd) but to be exact 1214 High St, Armadale, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. Metro 5 is a perfect display unit for Blek Le Rat, great window space and its long corridor displays Blek's work to perfection.

On the weekend i heard a whisper that there was an artist out there that had constructed an air max sculpture. My imagination ran wild with the mental images.

Jail looks positivly futuristic, somewhat of a space ship. Maybe its the way its been photographed?

Ice looks simply stunning, with the ice lit from below. Glowing colours would be perfect for a party. Slip and slide coldness.

The twelfth photo is of Cappadocia. When i visited Turkey we travelled there. Its amazing house in caves, all equipped with antennas. Another world.

On the topic of hotels, i remembered this artist who covered a room with cheese... YES cheese.

With Harpers Baazar he has produced "Tim Burtons Tricks and Treats" (shot by Tim Walker) a re-interpretation of the NY season of dark fashion. This fashion shoot also ties in with the Tim Burton exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art NYC. Wish i could go...

Balloons in any language!

I played a small prank on tim -housemate number 2 last night. I blew up 15 odd balloons (with no help from whale) and placed them underneath his doona. After all the blowing and tieing, it looked wonderful. I didn't take a photo, i should have. Now i knew tim was having a night on the piss, so the homecoming would be fairly amusing.

I did not hear any popping during the night, but i do have to admit that i have a wonderfully deep sleep.

I was up early on the computer prepping for the studio and i heard his door creek open, footsteps and a groan. After the mornings greetings and amusing balloon talk. That was it.

I have balloons on the brain and found these images...

Does it shoot balloons too? I want this in my backyard.

i like lego, i always have. i got barbies when i was little but i tended to chop there hair off and colour it black with texta. i did the same thing to my care bear - go figure. i remember getting a lego set that was a semi trailer truck which took D batteries in its container and you could power the wheels - forwards and backwards. i fuckin loved that set.

wu-tang clan, 36 chambers always takes me back to being a reckless young girl. running around doing what naughty girls do... use your imagination.
